My name is Camille and I can't watch and sew at the same time.

I won some fabric! Riel over at The Q and the U drew my name! I'm so excited! I never win anything. I hope that by the next giveaway I will be able to participate. I love the idea of getting new readers and giving away goodies. I'd love to get into a few swaps but they are a great mystery to me as to where they get organized.

I finished the quilt top I was working on. It took one a half nap times to get it all done. While sewing I set up Netflix on my iphone. It sits directly behind my machine and I plug it into the docking thing and listen. I'm a HUGE Dr. Who and Torchwood fan. I was watching the final specials for Torchwood and wasn't paying attention to my layout as I was sewing. It wasn't until I got the whole damn thing done that I noticed this.

Well crap

And yes, that is my son scratching his head at my giant blunder. I've decided to take apart the first 2 rows and make them match the rest and go for a more zig zag feel. I figure once I quilt the zig zags it will look even better. I'm thinking about 4 lines in the white part and maybe a little square inside the prints.

This is going to be the fabric selection for my son's kaleidoscope quilt. I got most of the prints on sale from The Fabric Quarter. I figure what I would pay for a fat quarter at my local quilt shop is what a half yard cost so I was sold. I'm thinking a couple more pieces should do it. I'm thinking a very light gray for the solid instead of white. White + little boys = heartbreak.

I keep eyeballing all these vintage sheets and decided I wanted to do that. I went to a few yard sales and even an estate sale and couldn't find much in the line of sheets. At the estate sale there were moomoos galore! I decided to cut those up and add them in with some vintage sheets and badabing bada boom! I haven't decided on a pattern just yet, but I think I will try my hand at a tutorial for cutting them to pieces. At least if I try it gives the illusion I know what I'm talking about.

Work in progess

I just spent a good hour going around to all the SMS may give away blogs. I've found so many to follow! I love reading them all for inspiration.

After finishing my last quilt I decided I needed to make ANOTHER hst quilt.

This is my sewing table. I found a kaleidoscope ruler at Joann's last week when they had the super sale. 50% off quilting notions AND I had an extra 20% off everything even sale items coupon. (Savings make my heart skip a beat.) A kaleidoscope is the next quilt up on the list.

Colorful!

This is my design space. Its a big spot between my bed and a wall. I lay it all out and then stand on a chair to take a picture and look at it. For as long as I can remember I've done anything creative sprawled out on the floor. Even art class in high school.

Here is the first row sewn together. I made those corners my bitch! I'm absolutely loving the colors on this one. I admit, life has been crazy and stressful and sad recently so sewing has taken a back burner. It's somewhat better now. I should have sewed for stress relief instead of snacking. My thighs would much appreciate that.

A quilt for me

Finished!

This was my first attempt at half square triangles. I can see the appeal now. The possibilities are great. I got the idea for this from different flickr posts. The colors I got from a pattern called paradigm shift. Inthe pattern it had green squares in the middle of each block. To me, the middle blocks were way too distracting.

A bunch of the corners don't match up. I learned to square up my blocks for sure. I wasn't too worried about it because I knew when I made this that I wasn't going to be given I away. The fabrics are from god knows where. Pretty much if I saw it and liked it I bought it. I got almost the whole top done and realized it wasn't big enough and was out of white fabric. In an attempt to get it done right now right now I ran out and got some white prints from the wal marts. Gasp! Not wal mart fabric! Nooooo! The binding fabric is from there too. Don't turn me into the fabric police.

Finished!!

This is the back of it. It's a sheet I found at goodwill. It looks like little gray whirligigs. After I took this picture I realize I missed a line while quilting. Screw it. I'm the only one in this house that would notice.

Well hello there, I didn't see you. Come on in!

I read blogs constantly so why not document my adventures in sewing with out blowing up my sewing machine.

A little about myself seems only normal. My name is Camille. I'm a 20someodd mother to one monster, Little Man. I'm married to Hubs, who is supportive of my sewing and whose opinions of fabrics or patterns always catch me off guard. I love him for it. I've been a hair stylist for 8 years yet despise doing my own hair.

What got me into this sewing thing? My grandma. She would go to quilt circle and take me with her. It always looked fun and she would give me a needle and thread and whatever weird scraps she had, and let me make whatever I wanted. Usually I made weird blobs of God knows what, but she loved them. The only thing I have of hers now is a 30 year old baby blanket. It was made for my older brother, then passed to me, and finally to my son. Its in perfect condition all this time later. I can only hope I can make something so loved by others.

I'm a cheap ass frugal with my sewing. I love love quilt shops and designer fabric, but I only shop them on clearance sales. I get most of my stuff from Joann's and Hobbylobby and I think there is nothing wrong with them. Coupons = true love. However, if twenties start sprouting from my butt I will buy nothing but Moda and Robert Kaufman.

Pictures of the process will be on here, along with all my screw ups and WTF sewing moments. Yes, pinot grigio and machinery don't mix well, but damn is it fun sometimes :)
